Two Days, Two Battlefields

The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory in the summer of 1863 that ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Often referred to as the "High Water Mark of the Confederacy", it was the war's bloodiest battle with 51,000 casualties. It also provided President Abraham Lincoln with the setting for his most famous address.

23,000 soldiers were killed, wounded or missing after twelve hours of savage combat on September 17, 1862. The Battle of Antietam ended the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia’s first invasion into the North and led to Abraham Lincoln’s issuance of the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. Now the war was not only about preserving the Union, but ending slavery.

Tour not one but both of these important Battlefields. Licensed Battlefield Guide Guillermo L. Bosch will lead a tour of the Gettysburg Battlefield that covers the three days of the Southern invasion into northern territory. The following day Bosch will meet you in Sharpsburg, Maryland (an hour's drive) for a presentation and tour of the Battle of Antietam, the culmination of the Maryland Campaign of 1862, the first invasion of the North by General Robert E. Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia.
